I am an ecosystem ecologist researching the sources and fates of carbon in lake, river, and stream ecosystems. These include terrestrial-aquatic linkages, atmospheric fluxes, and utilization by aquatic food webs. I am particularly interested in how dynamic hydrologic conditions in both natural and human-altered (e.g., reservoir) aquatic ecosystems affect elemental cycling. I conduct much of my research in developing countries, where I prioritize building local capacity to assess and adapt to ecosystem changes.
